Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 Tyres 1977–1980

Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Tyres Explained

  • Like the late Shadow 1; the Silver Shadow 2 had wider wheel arches and fitted 235/70R15 tyres.
  • The asymmetric carcass and tread pattern of the 235/70R15 Michelin XVS Whitewall dramatically improves the handling of these Rolls Royce Silver Shadows. It was Rolls Royce’s handling tyre of choice.
  • The 235/70R15 Avon TurboSpeed was Rolls Royce’s comfort option, for the chauffeur-driven Silver Shadow 2 tyres.
  • Although period fitting manuals and Rolls Royce both indicate that Silver Shadow wheels are tubeless, these wheels lack the safety beads that are typical of a 'genuine' tubeless wheel by current standards. We recommend that you install innertubes on these wheels.
  • We suggest the Michelin 15/17H innertube for these tyres.
  • Low-speed unloaded Shadow 2 tyre pressure recommendations go as low as 24psi front and 28psi rear. However, high-speed recommendations, which are better suited to modern roads, are 29psi front and 32psi rear.
  • There are many different opinions with regard to Silver Shadow tyre pressures. We would suggest the lower pressures are for comfort in a chauffeur-driven Shadow, whereas the higher pressures give better directional stability on motorways.

Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 Whitewall Tyres

We have a variety of whitewall tyres in the size 235/70R15. We recommend the 235/70R15 Michelin XVS Whitewall as the best-performing white wall tyre in this size.
