185 - 15 Vredestein Classic
Vredestein make a range of modern tyres called the Sprint Classic. they make one in the size 185-15. The crossply size 640X15 can be exchanged for the radial 185-15 Vredestein Sprint Classic. However the 185VR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic has a modern look and there are genuine period tyres in this size such as the 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 or the 185 HR 15 Michelin XVS-P that will look and handle better on a classic car.
185-15 Tyres
185HR15 tyres are fitted to cars such as the Citroen DS, which initially fitted 165R400, then 180HR15, but then in 1973 they started moving onto 185HR15. Some owners these days misguidedly fit the 185VR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic as an attempt to save money. However, it will spoil the handling of the car that really needs an Asymmetric tyre the 185H15 Michelin XVS-P.
185-15 Vredestein Sprint Classic
The 185-15 Vredestein Sprint Classic is a tyre often fitted to a MK2 Jaguar. The best tyre for a MK2 Jaguar without power steering is the 180HR15 Michelin XAS because it keeps the steering nice and light, and the asymmetric carcass makes it drive nicely in a straight line.
The 185 - 15 Vredestein Sprint Classic is also fitted to some E-Type Jaguars. There are much better tyres for an E-Type than a 185-15 Vredestein Sprint Classic. The 185 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 was an original factory option in period, and remains a much better option for an E-type today than a 185 - 15 Vredestein Sprint classic, as the PIRELLI has a V speed rating. And of course, the PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ is one of the best tyres you can fit to cars of this period.
