Period Tyres with excellent handling for many Dream Cars

At the close of the 1960's the Michelin XWX tire was created to keep up with the development of European motorways that was currently being lead by Germany and Italy. Many Italian cars for instance like the 1966 Lamborghnin Miura, 1965 Ferrari 365, 1966 Maserati Ghibli and 1970 De Tomaso Pantera were all happily capable of reaching speeds in excess of 200kph/124mph. In Germany meanwhile there were cars like the 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS as some of the more famous but there was also solid saloons like the 1968 Mercedes 300 and 1971 BMW 3.0 SI.

A number of both British and French cars would also choose to fit a Michelin XWX for dramatically improved performance and handling suitable for motorway use. This includes the likes of the 1970 Citroen SM, 1967 Aston Martin DBS and the 1970 Jaguar V12 E-type (or Jaguar V12 XKE Michelin tires). The Michelin XWX was a tire designed to aid the performance of these super-cars during the times when Motorways lacked speed limits, and is still an exceptional tire to fit today.

Why did so many of the worlds best super cars fit Michelin XWX Tyres in the mid 1970s?

In the 1970s the Michelin XWX range of tyres were wide sectioned 70 profile, which in the 1970s were considered low profile tyres, but the Michelin XWX tyres were extraordinary in that they were capable of withstanding speeds of over 150mph, which was necessary for cars like the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Countach.
