185R15 Avon Turbosteel
Made in the UK the 185R15 Avon TurboSteel offers a great bargain option with a V speed rating.
185R15
Back in the 1960s the tyre sizes 185R15 was common place on lots of the top sports cars of the day such as the 250 GT Ferrari which actually fitted the Pirelli Cinturato tyre in that size. A Citroen DS 23 injection fitted 185R15 tyres, but to enhance the handling and make them drive better in a straight line at cruising speeds the DS fitted the 185R15 Michelin XVS.
185R15 is also a radial alternative to crossply tyre sizes such as the 640H15 that was originally fitted to the E-Type Jaguar, which in 1968 changed to fit the 185 x 15 Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet because it was made in the UK it was a good value tyre, yet again the true enhancement was to fit the Pirelli Cinturato as all the best sports cars did.
David Brown Aston Martin from the middle of the production of the DB4 through DB5 and the series 1 DB6 fitted 6.70V15 Avon Turbo Speed crossply tyres, however if you asked Avon to fit a radial tyre they would fit a 185 VR 15 Pirelli Cinturato CA67, not the 185R15 Avon, because the Cinturato is such a good tyre for a sports car.
185R15 inner tubes
Because a 185R15 tyre is a full profile tyre, and could also be described as a 185/80R15 tyre it can be fitted with inner tubes if the wheel it is being fitted to determines that it needs inner tubes, for instance a wire wheel. We strongly recommend fitting inner tubes in wire wheels.
We would suggest the best inner tube for a 185R15 Avon TurboSpeed is the Michelin 15F13 innertube.
