History of the Daimler 104

Built between 1955 and 1962 the Daimler 104 was a replacement for the Daimler Regency, with a bulked up structure, improved brakes and a 3468cc engine that had been tweaked to give out more power. There was a special version produced known as the Lady's Model which was more "feminine" with a luxury interior and a picnic basket, sadly only 49 were sold, however the Lady's Model's unique fittings, inspired by Lady Docker, were optional additions the next year.

The 3.5-litre engine got a new cylinder head, and a compression ratio of 7.6:1, producing over 30% more power (137 bhp at 4,400 rpm) to propel the same 2-tonne Mk II to 104 m.p.h. When there were no open-road speed limitations, it was promoted as the 100 m.p.h. Daimler One-O-Four, with improved brakes and an interior branded with a fluted boss displaying a huge D in the centre of its back bumper. The moniker One-O-Four alludes to a prototype that reached 104 m.p.h. during testing.
