Austin A90 Westminster Tyres

  • The Austin A90 Westminster was built from 1955 to 1956 and originally fitted 640 - 15 crossply tyres.
  • If a crossply is required we would suggest the 640 H 15 Avon Super Safety, sporting Michelin 15F innertubes.
  • We recommend the 180 HR 15 Michelin XAS tyres, for it's stable handling and being probably the closest radial tyre to a 640 - 15.
  • For these tyres the Michelin 15E is the ideal Austin A90 Westminster innertube.
  • Innertubes are not necessary for most radial tyres, but if you have tube-type wheels (Austins of this era were released on tube-type wheels), an Austin A90 Westminster innertube must be fitted.
  • The suggested Austin A90 Westminster radial tyre pressures are 28psi both front and rear.

History of the Austin A90 Westminster

At the 1954 London Motor Show, the A90 Six Westminster was unveiled. Unlike the A70, it utilised the new BMC C-Series straight-6 engine with a single Zenith carburettor, producing 85hp with its 2.6 L (2639 cc) displacement. The A90 Westminster features an independent front suspension with coil springs and wishbones, and a leaf spring and anti-roll bar on the live axle in the back. The top three gears of the four-speed gearbox had Synchromesh, with an optional overdrive after 1955. The Austin Atlantic had previously held the A90 badge from 1948 to 1952.
