Mercedes-Benz 280 SE on 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P Tyres

Mercedes 280 SE W111 (1967–1971)

The Mercedes-Benz W111 280SE is a special-class (Sonderklasse), fuel-injected (Einspritzung) coupe and cabriolet variant of the 1967–1971 W111 chassis, with a 2.8-litre engine. Later 280 SE 3.5 Coupé and 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet models featured a larger 3.5L engine.

  • The Mercedes 280 SE Coupe and Cabriolet on the W111 chassis fitted a 7.35x14 crossply on the earlier cars. However, later cars fitted 185 R14 radial tyres; this is the size recommended today.
  • In this size, the 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P is the ideal 280 SE tyre.
  • If you want a wider tyre, we suggest the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX.
  • The ideal innertube for 185R14 and 205/70R14 tyres is the Michelin 14F.

  • The Mercedes 280 SL Pagoda on the W113 Chassis will benefit from 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P tyres.
  • Michelin also makes an excellent 280SL whitewall tyre, the 185 R14 MXV White Wall.
  • The recommended tube for 185R14 tyres is the Michelin 14F innertube.

Mercedes 280 SEL, SE, & S W108 (1968–1973)

The Mercedes-Benz 280 S, SE, and SEL W108 (1968–1973) are luxury saloons within the "Special Class" (Sonderklasse), with the 280 SE featuring fuel injection (Einspritzung), the SEL describing a longer wheelbase ("Lang") for enhanced rear legroom, and the S model typically carbureted, all powered by a 2.8-litre engine, on the esteemed W108 chassis.

  • The Mercedes 280 S, SE, and SEL on the W108 chassis will handle at its best with the 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P or the 185HR14 Michelin MXV White Wall.
  • The 185HR14 Michelin MXV White Wall is ideal if you want white wall tyres on your W108 Mercedes 280.
  • If you want a wider tyre, as people often do, we suggest the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX.
  • The Michelin 14F innertube is the best choice for these tyres.

Mercedes 280, 280E, C, CE and TE W123 (1975–86)

The Mercedes-Benz 280, 280E, 280C, 280CE, and 280TE W123 are a range of executive cars, including saloons (280 and 280E), coupes (280C and 280CE), and estate (280TE) models. These vehicles are powered by a 2.8-litre engine, with the "E" designation indicating fuel injection. The W123 series is famous for its durability, advanced safety features, and comfort, making it one of Mercedes-Benz's most successful cars.

  • The very first W123 Mercedes 280 and 280 E tyre was the 195/70HR14 Veith 446, fitted from 1975–1977; this tyre is no longer produced.
  • In 1977, they also offered the Michelin XVS, which is no longer made in the correct size, and the CN36.
  • We now recommend the 195/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as the best tyre.
  • The PIRELLI CINTURATO â„¢ CN36 is also the only proper classic tyre in the size 195/70R14, and it is great that it is one of the OE tyres.
  • The Michelin 14F is the best possible innertube for use in these classic tyres.
