Iso Rivolta History

Originally known as Isothermos, the motor manufacturer Iso Rivolta produced refrigeration equipment. Renzo Rivolta, an engineer, created the business in Genoa in 1939. Renzo Rivolta started work on the iconic Iso Rivolta IR 300 with the help of the engineers Giotto Bizzarrini, Giorgetto Giugiaro, and the body specialists of Bertone. This 2 + 2 coupé has an exquisite design, well-balanced technological components, and exceptional driving performance.

The 5.4L V8 Chevrolet Small Block engine was produced by General Motors in Detroit, America, and the braking system used four disc brakes from the large Jaguars of the period (just in case you wanted to stop). This concept was maintained for almost all production cars of Iso.

The image above depicts the 205VR15 CN72 CINTURATO HS tyre produced by PIRELLI in 1964 as original equipment for the Iso Rivolta. On each side of this tyre are more current 70 per cent profile tyre sizes, which are frequently fitted incorrectly. A 205/70VR15 is on the left, which is significantly too small in diameter, and a 215/70VR15 is on the right, which is closer in dimensions and would also be a suitable tyre for the Iso Rivolta. When the low profile tyre was introduced in the early 1970s, certain automobiles that used the 205VR15 CINTURATO TM tyre were converted to the 215/70VR15 tyre.

Starting in 1971, Ford 351 Cleveland engines replaced the General Motors small block.

After the sudden death of Renzo Rivolta, his son Piero became the director of Iso Rivolta in 1966. Under his leadership, Iso built the limousine Fidia, "the fastest four seats on wheels" so the adverts said, with bodywork by Ghia. Iso Rivolta went bankrupt in 1974, only 1700 Iso Gran Turismos had been built in those ten years.
