History of the Humber Imperial
The Humber Pullman was designed to be a replacement for the Humber 20/65 hp and the long-wheelbase variant of the Humber Snipe. In 1939, an updated version was introduced under the name Humber Imperial, but the automobile was renamed Pullman after the war. The cars were manufactured from 1930 to 1940, 1945 to 1954, and 1964 to 1967. Between 1948 and 1954, the automobile was badged as the Pullman with a central partition (for chauffeured usage), but without a partition as the Humber Imperial.
During WWII, the Pullman / Imperial was not sold to the general public; instead, the factory's restricted output was utilised as staff cars. It was reintroduced to the market in 1945 and continued to be manufactured until 1954. The Pullman name was dropped from the lists after 1954, but the Humber Imperial was reintroduced in 1964. The new vehicle was basically a top-tier Humber Super Snipe, distinguished by a vinyl roof, automatic gearbox, and a more lavishly fitted interior. Rootes Group discontinued the big Humbers, notably the Imperial, in 1967.
