Alfa Romeo Giulietta Tipo 750 1954–1965

Giulietta Tipo 101 1954–1965

  • In 1959 when Alfa did a redesign the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Tipo 101 kept the same tyre size as the Tipo 750.
  • We recommend the 155 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CA67 as the best tyre for these early Classic Alfa Romeo Giulietta 101.
  • The 155 TR 15 Michelin X is another period tyre, however it isn’t a sports car tyre like the Cinturato.
  • The 1965 Michelin XAS is still a good tyre, but a bit late really for the Giulietta Tipo 101, but will handle nicely.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta 116 1977–1985

  • Towards the end of the 1970s Alfa developed a new series of Giulietta (116) in 1977.
  • For the Tipo 116 cars between 1977 and 1983 we recommend the 165VR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 for the Giulietta 1.6 litre
  • The Tipo 116 Giulietta 1.8 had larger tyres we recommend 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.
  • The 2.0 Litre Gulietta Tipo 116 fitted 185/65HR14 for which there isn’t currently a classic tyre.
  • For information on the ideal Alfa Romeo Giulietta tyre pressures see our tyre pressures guide.

Alfa Giulietta Innertubes

  • The period fitment guides from Dunlop, Michelin and Pirelli specify that the Classic Alfa Giulietta should be fitted with innertubes.
  • Both the Giulietta Tipo 750 and Giulietta Tipo 101 should be fitted with innertubes.
  • The 155 R15 and 165 R15 tyres on the Giulietta Tipo 750 and Tipo 101 are best fit with Michelin 15E innertubes.
  • The later Tipo 116 Giulietta was fitted with tubeless 13” and 14” rims and does not need an innertube.
  • 165 R13 tyres on the later Giulietta Tipo 116 could fit a Michelin 13D innertube if needed.
  • 185/70 R13 tyres could also fit a Michelin 13E innertube if your rims aren't airtight or if you have suffered a puncture, however these are tubeless wheels as standard.
  • The Tipo 116 Giulietta Turbodelta 2 litre cars should not fit innertubes as a tube should not be fitted into a 65% profile tyre.
  • Ruote Borrani also make the period aluminium rimmed bimetal and spoked Classic Alfa Romeo Giulietta wheels.

History of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Juan Manuel Fangio and the Pirelli Cinturato

From 1954 to 1965, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta (series 750 and 101) was a subcompact car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo.

The Giulietta Sprint, the first Giulietta vehicle, was debuted in late 1954 as a coupe. In the spring of 1955, a saloon was introduced, and in the middle of 1955, the open two-seat Giulietta Spider with convertible bodywork by Pininfarina was introduced.

Carrozzeria Colli also produced a Giulietta estate version known as the Giulietta Promiscua. There were just 91 of them manufactured. Weekendina estate cars were also produced by Carrozzeria Boneschi.

Alfa Romeo employed a light alloy cylinder block and alloy cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts in the Giulietta's twin-cam engine, which was a straight 4 1290 cc. The original Giulietta engine generated 53 horsepower in the saloon and 80 horsepower in the Giulietta Sprint. Later sporty variants, such as the Giulietta Sprint Speciale and the Giulietta Sprint Zagato, would have 100 horsepower.
