Pirelli Cinturato Tyres Explained

Pirelli Cinturato

  • Pirelli’s Cinturato was the first radial tyre developed for sports cars and came out in 1952.
  • Cinturato means belted. The Pirelli Cinturato CA67 belted radial tyres for classic sports cars were first developed in 1952 and took over as standard fitment for the supercars of the period throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
  • Cinturato CA67 (or Cintura) was fitted to the world's best sports cars, such as Ferrari Tyres, Maserati, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and Lotus.
  • Pirelli’s Cinturato CA67 is still made to the highest standards in a wide range of important classic car sizes.

Cintura Tyres

When Pirelli first developed the Cinturato CA67 radial tyres back in the early '50s, they were initially called Cintura. When looking at period advertisements, you will see Pirelli adverts for their Cintura range of tyres, which soon morphed into the Cinturato CA67 that is being produced today.

Q: Where are Pirelli Cinturato tyres made?

A: The early CA67 Pirelli Cinturato range of classic car tyres, are predominantly made in Turkey or Argentina. It is important to note that though these Pirelli tyres are sadly not made in Italy, they are made in Pirelli factories due to Pirelli’s stringent quality control systems.

Q: Is a Pirelli Cinturato CA67 the same as a Pirelli Cintura

A: Yes. When the Cinturato range first came out, they were called Cintura. There have also been a variety of changes made as the range has been produced. Now Pirelli makes the Cinturato CA67, which is the perfect tyre for classic cars, especially for cars such as XK120 Jaguars that originally fitted crossply.
