Humber Snipe Tyres

  • For any Pre-1948 Humber Snipe a set of radial tyres, the 185 SR 16 Michelin X is deemed the ideal by Longstone tyres for modern roads.
  • A Humber Snipe made after 1948 would be perfectly suited to a set of 6.00-16 PIRELLI STELLA BIANCA tyres as a crossply option.
  • This car left the factory on tube-type wheels; innertubes are required for the wheels to function.
  • The ideal tube for these tyres is the Michelin 16F Reinforced innertube.

History of the Humber Snipe

The Humber Snipe was a four-door luxury saloon released in 1930 by British-based Humber Limited as a replacement for the Humber 20/55 hp (which stayed in the catalogue as the 20/65) at the same time as the comparable but significantly longer Humber Pullman. The first Humber Snipe was introduced in September 1929, marketed with the slogan "Such Cars As Even Humber Never Built Before."

The Snipe demonstrated the impact of William Rootes' marketing talents following the designation of Rootes Limited as Humber's "World Exporters," as well as a striking resemblance to his Hillmans. In July 1932, Humber Limited joined what became known as the Rootes Group as part of a required reorganisation of Humber's capital and ownership.

The Humber Snipe, introduced in 1930 as a successor to the Humber 20/55 HP, was comparable to the Humber Pullman, which was released at the same time, except it was significantly shorter. The 'Snipe 80' had a 120-inch wheelbase from 1930 to 1935, and a 124-inch wheelbase from 1936 onwards. When the Humber line was updated for 1948, the Snipe was dropped, leaving just the Hawk and Super Snipe on the list, besides the huge Pullman.
