History of the Bristol 407

The first Bristol car to be built under the new administration after Bristol Cars' separation from Bristol Aeroplane Company, the Bristol 407 was built 1961-1963. Outwardly similar in appearance to the Bristol 406, it differed in the key area of not using the old BMW straight six engine that previous Bristols had used and instead fitted a Chrysler V8.

In 1961, a driving publication tested a Bristol 407 and found it to have a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 9.2 seconds. The "touring" fuel usage was 17.5 miles per imperial gallon. The 407 cost £5141 including taxes in the United Kingdom, which equates to £98,186 today (November 2021).
