Alvis 12/50 Tyres

  • The Alvis 12/50 was released in 1923 and was in production until 1932, releasing a series of different versions, with 3705 made in total.
  • When the 12/50 Alvis first came out it fitted 23” wheels, for which we would suggest the 31 x 4 (23"rim) Lucas.
  • These Alvis 12-50 tyres need 815X105 reinforced innertubes and 23” flaps, with tyre pressure set at 65psi.
  • In the mid 1920’s it fitted 21” wheels for which we would suggest the 4.40/4.50 x 21 Lucas tyre.
  • Later they fitted 20” wheels and Longstone recommends the 4.75/5.00 x 20 Lucas.
  • For the ideal Alvis 12-50 innertube on 20" tyres we suggest 20/21 CD RET Michelin reinforced innertubes with rim tapes.

History of the Alvis 12/50

The Alvis 12/50 is an automobile that was launched in 1923 by the British Alvis car manufacturer. It went through several iterations, the last of which was produced in 1932. A variety of factory bodies were available in two and four-seat configurations, with open or closed bodies. The initial versions were named SA and SB, with the SB using a 1496 cc 4-cylinder overhead valve engine. The SA was often equipped with two-seat bodywork, frequently in the traditional so-called "ducks back" form, so named because of its pointed rear end, which was believed to resemble that of a duck. The 12/50s were all equipped with a four-speed non-synchromesh transmission.
