Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1971–1989

In 1971, the first 1.2L Alfasud model was originally equipped with 145 R13 Tyres.
Up to 1977, the Alfasud Ti, SE, and 5m variants were fitted with 145 R13 tyres. The Alfasud 1200 model from 1975 to 1976 also featured 145 R13 tyres. The 1977 Alfasud 1200, N, L, and Ti models were equipped with 145 R13 tyres. From 1983 onwards, the Alfasud 1.3, 1.5, and Ti variants were fitted with the same 145 R13 tyres.
In this size we recommend either the 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 or the 145R13 Michelin XAS FF.
The 1977 Alfasud Ti, SE, and 5m models featured 165/70 R13 tyres. In 1978, the Alfasud 5m, 1200Ti, 1300Ti, and Sprint models were also fitted with 165/70 R13 tyres. The 1984-1985 Alfasud Ti, SE, and 5m variants maintained the use of 165/70 R13 tyres.
The Alfasud Estate (Giardinetta) produced from 1975 to 1978 and the Alfasud Estate from 1978 to 1981 (following the face-lift) were equipped with 165/70 R13 or 155 R13 tyres. The 155 R13 size is particularly well-suited for Estate models due to its height and full (80%) profile, which enhances the load-bearing capacity and driving comfort, both of which are desirable attributes for estate cars.
In this size, the ideal Alfasud tyre is the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67. The 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF is another excellent tyre, well-suited to the Alfasud.
Alfasud models that fit 145R13 tyres can instead be fitted with taller 155R13 tyres for those that like an oversized tyre. We recommend the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 in this case.
During the period of 1981-1982, the Alfasud 1.3 and 1.5 models, as well as the Alfasud TI, TIS, and TIS Veloce variants, were equipped with 165/70 R13 tyres. The Alfasud Sprint Veloce model from 1981 to 1983 featured 165-70 13 tyres. Additionally, from 1981 onwards, the Alfasud 1.3 (84cv) Ti and Sprint models were fitted with 165/70 R13 tyres.
From 1981, the Alfasud 1.3 (68cv) and 1.5 (84cv) models had various tyre options, including 145 R13, 165/70 R13, and 190/55 R340. Similarly, the Alfasud 1.5 (94cv) Ti and 1.5 (94cv) Sprint variants were equipped with 190/55R340 tyres. The Alfasud 1.5 Sprint (94cv) and 1.5Ti (105cv) models had 190/55R340 tyres, as well as the option of 185/60 R14 tyres.
In the 185/60R14 size we recommend either the 185/60 VR 14 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. The only top-quality period 190/55R340 tyre to recommend is the 190/55 VR 340 Michelin TRX.

Alfa Romeo Alfasud Innertubes

Initially, Alfasud cars were outfitted with wheels that required innertubes. However, from approximately 1980 onwards, the majority of models made a shift to tubeless wheels. According to our fitment guides, only the 1.2, Ti, SE, and 5m models continued to utilize tube-type wheels after 1981.
Tires with a profile below 70% (e.g., 190/55 R340) should not be paired with innertubes.
For 145 R13 tyres, the Michelin 13CG innertube is highly recommended. With 155 R13 tyres, the optimal innertube choice is the Michelin 13D. As for 165/70 R13 tyres, the Michelin 13E innertube stands out as the best option.

History of the Alfa Romeo Alfasud

From 1972 until 1983, Alfa's first effort at a compact front-wheel drive automobile was a blazing success thanks to its surprising flat-four engined brilliance. However, due to the Italian government's experiment with spreading manufacturing, the car was built in the north of Italy, around Naples, by an "unskilled" labour force. As a result, many automobiles suffered from poor construction quality or rust as a result of a lack of adequate undercoating or coating after the bodyshell had already been exposed to the elements.

Alfa Romeo Alfasud Innertubes

A tubeless wheel needs an innertube if fitted with a tube type tyre.
A tubeless tyre needs an innertube, if fitted to a wheel that is built to be used with a tube.
Only a tubeless wheel, fitted with a tubeless tyre can be run tubeless. You need both.

Please Note - Tyre manufacturers base their fitment guide data on whether an innertube is necessary with their own recommended tyres. Not just whether the wheel fitted to the vehicle is a tubeless wheel.

For example, many cars from the 1970s fitted tubeless wheels, (wheels featuring a safety rib). The Michelin XAS tyres, in period, were a tube-type tyres. In cases where Michelin recommend an XAS for a car, their fitment guides will say the car needs innertubes. However, the wheel is a tubeless wheel with a safety rib and if fitted with an alternative tubeless tyre, no tube would have been needed. Therefore, for example; if the same car listed in a Pirelli fitment guide, where a tubeless CN36 tyre were recommended, the same car will be listed as tubeless.
