AC Ace RuddSpeed 2.6 1961–1963

    AC Ace Ruddspeed Tyres

    AC Ace Ruddspeed

  • The best AC Ace RS 2.6 tyre is the 5.50 R 16 Michelin X, as it is both the original classic equipment tyre and the premier radial tyre in this size.
  • The AC Ace RuddSpeed 2.6 would have left the factory on tube-type wheels with innertubes fitted. Any car on wire wheels must fit innertubes.
  • The most desirable AC Ace RS 2-6 innertube for these tyres is the Michelin 16E.
  • Suggested RuddSpeed tyre pressures - 28psi for the front, and 33psi for the back.

History of the AC Ace RS 2.6

In 1961, a new 2.6-litre 2,553 cc straight-six 'Ruddspeed' option was introduced, developed by Ken Rudd from the Ford Zephyr engine. It was outfitted with three Weber or SU carburettors and either a 'Mays' or an iron cast head. This arrangement increased the car's performance even further, with some models adjusted to 170 horsepower, allowing for a maximum speed of 130 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 8.1 seconds. The conversion left the RS 2.6 cheaper than the AC Ace RS 2.6 version. However, it wasn't long before Carroll Shelby brought the attention of AC to the Cobra, thus only 37 of the 2.6 models were produced.
