History of the Alvis 12-40

The Alvis 12/40 was a passenger car manufactured by Alvis between 1922 and 1924 as a successor for the 11/40. The engine was a four-cylinder in-line with valves on the sides. The 1598 cc engine had a single Solex carburettor and generated 30 horsepower at 3800 rpm. The 12/40 was available as a four-seat touring vehicle or a two-seat sports tourer (roadster). The front and rear stiff axles were suspended by semi-elliptical leaf springs. The fastest speed recorded was 59.6 miles per hour.
